Cape Town has an incredible amount to offer the curious traveller. Beyond its beaches, mountains, vineyards and restaurants, the city has a rich creative culture, and when it comes to theatre and the performing arts, it is undoubtedly one of South Africa’s leading cities.
From the Owner’s Desk: Reflections on Geography and Travelling to South Africa

When the world feels unstable, geography suddenly matters.
Over the past few months, I’ve noticed a shift in conversations with travellers, particularly those from Europe. People are still eager to travel, but the questions are changing. It’s no longer just “Where should we go?” but increasingly, “Where in the world still feels a long way from conflict?”
In that conversation, South Africa stands out in a way many people might not immediately consider.

Take geography, for example. Stockholm is roughly half as far from Iran as it is from South Africa. In other words, the southern tip of Africa is about twice as far from that region as Northern Europe itself. At a time when proximity suddenly matters again, that distance takes on a new significance.
Then there’s the question travellers often ask next: “What about the flight routes?”
Most flights between Europe and South Africa don’t pass over the Middle East at all. Airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, South African Airways, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM and SWISS operate routes that travel south towards the African continent. For many travellers keeping a close eye on global events, that alone offers a degree of reassurance.
But the deeper truth is this: South Africa has always offered something the modern world increasingly seems to lack: space and value for money.
Travel isn’t just about discovery. Sometimes, it’s about gaining a little distance from the noise of the world. And geographically speaking, few places lie further from today’s conflicts than the southern tip of Africa.
